Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
Published on October 5, 2007 By COL Gene In Politics

Bush vetoed the S-CHIP health Care bill for low and middle income children because it included children whose families had annual incomes above twice the federal poverty level ($40,000). Bush said these families should pay for their own health insurance.

Great- Congress should END Federal health coverage for Bush, Cheney, Congress, the Supreme Court Justices etc. All these senior Federal officials earn more then $40,000 per year and today receive that EVIL socialized medicine paid by the American taxpayers.

Bush can not have it BOTH WAYS. Let him and Draft Dogger Dick buy their own PRIVATE health insurance!

Yes for 40 years I paid so others could receive Medicare. Now it is my turn. What is your problem with that?

Col,

How do you feel about the expanding the SCHIP to legal aliens?

I would NOT cover them unless they were born in the U.S. and are American Citizens per the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. I do not agree Bush should VETO the new law because it may include illegal’s rather the law should be amended to correct that issue. The vast majority of the added children that would be covered are legal and are children that DO NOT have medical insurance.

The cost of health insurance today for a family runs about $ 7-8,000 per year. People making $50-80,000 do not have the money to pay $700 per month for just health coverage. The truth of that is the children we are talking about do not have insurance for the most part and Bush is a hypocrite for taking taxpayer paid health insurance for him and his family making $800,000 per year and telling us that middle income families making up to $80,000 can afford to pay their own insurance. Bush, Cheney and alike can and should be paying for their own PRIVATE health insurance.

Here's where you and I differ Col. You see when someone comes to the US as a Permanent resident (ie greencard) they have to be sponsored by someone. The application on the Affidavit of Support specifically states that the support is to show they make/have enough money to support the LEGAL alien so that they do not become a public burden. A Permanent resident does obtain a Social Security Card once after they have their permanent residency card. This legislature opened the doors to these people as well.

This legislature in my opinion negates the affidavit of support. The sponsor is not liable for the health insurance of the person they are sponsoring.

We have no way of knowing how many are LEGAL as opposed to Illegal. For legal aliens I would agree the people that sponsored them should be responsible for their support including medical insurance. If this bill covers illegal aliens, I would exclude them from this benefit.

The issue however is that I do not agree with Bush and his veto. The economic cost of NOT providing for health care for children carries into their future. For me it gets to what I see in Bush and other conservatives as their willingness to provide taxpayer help to the wealthy while arguing that middle income families should fend for themselves. Here are two examples I used is:

Bush and other senior officials receive benefits that Bush claims the average person should and can afford to pay for while accepting that same taxpayer benefit for him and his family.

The second example in the FARM Subsidy. Why farmers making up to $2.5 Million dollars should have EVER have been included in a program to protect small farmers is a good question. However now the Democrats are trying to limit that to $500,000 per year and Bush and the GOP want to continue giving taxpayer money to people that are in the TOP 1% income group. WHAT possible justification can Bush or anyone else give to continue paying farm subsidies to people that make millions of dollars per year?

Bush and Cheney receive health insurance as part of their job -- just like millions of Americans.  It is not a gift. Not charity. It is part of compensation package for that job.

By contrast, what you are arguing is that other people should have their property forcibly confiscated by the government and handed over to people who make up to $60k per year in order to provide the children of those people health insurance simply because the person $60k chooses not to insure their own children.

It's a ridiculous comparison but a telling one.

The cost of his health insurance is paid by taxpayers just like the cost of the Bill he vetoed.

A family with $60,000 income might not be able to pay out $8,000 per year for JUST health Insurance.

I think we should vote on the amount we pay Bush and Cheney by how satisfied the voters are with the job they are doing for our country. That would mean Bush and Cheney would be taking a BIG cut in pay!
