The Secretary of HEW admitted yesterday that the budget for the FDA is not close to what is needed to protect the countries food and drug supply. This is an astounding admission from a member of the Bush Cabinet. We have had 7 Bush Budgets and for six of those years the GOP controlled Congress. During that period imports have doubled and the funding for the FDA has dropped. This clearly shows how misguided the priorities are from the Bush Administration. We have wasted more in Iraq than we have spent in the past 7 years on the FDA! That is astounding. We are spending 2 Billion dollars to protect the entire food and drug supply for 300 Million Americans.
The same is true for product safety and we have millions of dangerous toys mostly from China in this country. We have a total of 60 inspectors to insure that tens of millions of toys from thousands of suppliers are safe. The fact is we are NOT protecting the 300 million Americans from dangerous products and Bush has failed to allocate the resources needed to protect our citizens. This is the very same issue with the borders and ports and 6 years after 9/11 are not protected and we do not have the resources needed to do the job. Two weeks also the Coats Guard Commandant was on CNN saying they do not have the manpower or equipment needed to properly meet his mission. The CoS of the Army and Commandant of the Marine Corps has said the same thing. LET’S CUT SPENDING—END THE IRAQ WAR and begin funding things like the FDA, Coast Guard and Border Security!
This administration has spent a Trillion Dollars on a war that did not have to be fought while at the same time ignoring the health and safety of our country!
