GOP blocks Senate stimulus package The Senate has failed to break a Republican filibuster on an economic stimulus bill that would give $44 billion in rebate checks to the elderly, disabled veterans, the poor and unemployed. The tally was 58-41, two shy of ending debate.. ... The Associated Press and New York Times have more on the political wrangling. One of the no votes was Senator Reid to enable the bill to be voted again. The truth is that had McCain voted YES this package would h...

Bush, McCain and the GOP Ignored our Disabled Vets! This is true no matter who said it!
February 7, 2008 by COL Gene
It took the Democrats in the Senate to help our disabled vets. Bush, McCain and MOST of the GOP Senators ignored the needs of our disabled Vets. When Bush and the GOP members of Congress tell us they are the party of national defense you know they are full of BS. How could any Commander in Chief or Member of Congress who exclude our disabled Vets be supportive of the military?

Now people on JoeUser claim extending unemployment benefits and including rebates to people who make less then $3,000 is PORK. WHAT BS! These are not only the two actions that would be MOST successful in providing a more effective stimulus to the economy but also help those who need help the Most. The illogic that appears on Joe User and is shown by the Conservatives in the Senate is amazing!

If we give that money to individuals who spend it at Wal-Mart, it will NOT create U.S. Jobs and will not help our economic problems! It will just add more to the national debt![/quote] Glad to see you read what I write. What I said is consistent. People with a job and some income are very likely to spend some or most of the rebates in Wal-Mart. However people with NO job or people with incomes below $3,000 will spend it on food and more essential things more of which are made in the U....

My Blog about the GOP help for disabled vets and the poor says “These people not only have denied the most effective elements of any stimulus package” The truth is that the very elements that would be MOST effective to stimulate spending are the very elements that the GOP blocked. What is more effective then extending unemployment benefits? People without a job do not spend money. The continuation of the unemployment benefits would have mean they could continue to by food, clothing etc. ...

WHY did McCain not vote on the Senate Bill to give disabled Vets and the very poor rebates? Why did McCain not support millions of unemployed from receiving unemployment benefits? McCain’s vote to pass the stimulus bill would have been the 60th vote and would have passed this bill. He choose NOT to vote so he did not piss off the Conservatives while turning his back on our disabled vets, the poor and the unemployed. If that is what you mean by being a Conservative I want none of it....

The GOP senators have blocked help to 250,000 Disabled Vets who do not earn enough to receive the rebates and have blocked millions of unemployed from extending their benefits. These people not only have denied the most effective elements of any stimulus package but show they DO NOT care about the people in our country that NEED help. For the GOP to tell us they care about our military and deny 250,000 disabled vets the rebates is sickening. A POX on the GOP and their Conservative...

All the leading GOP Presidential candidates tell the voters that if Obama or Clinton is elected their taxes will go up. That is a LIE!!!!! I looked at the positions of both Clinton and Obama and they support increasing taxes for families making OVER $250,000 per year. I looked at the latest income data and that means only 5% of Americans would have a tax increase. McCain, Huckibee and Romney make it sound like all of us will see our taxes increase if a Democrat is elected. NOTHING...

The continual push of the three GOP candidates for President supporting conservative principals in the primary is a looser in November because the vast majority of voters ARE NOT conservatives. Why support a person for President that would retain policies the majority does not agree with? Issues like: Increasing taxes for people making over $250,000 per year to help pay our bills. Healthcare for most if not all Americans starting with Children. Keep Social Security like it is...

Bush sent his 2009 budget to Congress and it is a JOKE. The problem is it will not be funny for any GOP members of Congress who are running in November 2008. His budget proposes a $400 Billion deficit AFTER he has cut of almost $200 Billion from Medicare and Medicaid. No member of Congress running for reelection could embrace such a budget. The deficit is outrageous and to cut Medicare in an election year would be suicide. Bush is not showing how his proposed Medicare cuts are the res...

“They need to take those savings and extend unemployment and increase the benefits to people who receive Food Stamps. They need to limit tax cuts to business to those who create NEW living wage jobs in the U.S” The issue is not to conform to the DNC but to take action that will be more effective. People who do not have jobs do not spend. People who would get more food stamps would spend more on food. Tax cuts to business that create U.S. Jobs will stimulate OUR economy. People makin...

Some would say that if George Bush’s lips move tonight in the State of the Union address he will be telling us more lies. If he tells us the economy is fundamentally sound we will know he is telling more lies. In every sector of the economic news is bad. New home sales are the latest and many are predicting Real Estate will continue to decline into 2009. Existing home values have dropped 25% and millions may be close to the point where what they owe on their mortgage and home equity ...

The AP under the by line of Robert Burns reports that the situation in Afghanistan and the border areas in Pakistan is deteriorating and without more forces we could lose this fight. Senior U.S. Military commanders said the danger from al-Qaeda is greater from the operations in border area of Pakistan and Afghanistan then anything in Iraq. In fact the growth of al-Qaeda in Pakistan is the worst of all areas according to our senior military commanders. This is in direct conflict ...
