Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
Set No Objectives so When Nothing is Accomplished you have not Failed!
Published on December 19, 2006 By COL Gene In Business

Last week the Bush Administration sent half his Cabinet, lead by the Treasury Secretary, to China. The subject was Trade. Since 2001 when Bush approved the entry of China to the WTO, the trade deficit between China and the U.S. has spiraled out of control. In 2001 the trade deficit with China was $83 Billion. In 2002 $103; 2003 $124; 2004 $162; 2005 $ 202 and it is estimated for 2006 at $220 Billion. The source of this data is the Data Dissemination Branch of the U.S. Census Bureau. Following the Bush axiom of Judging by Results we have a MAJOR failure. The two main issues are Property Rights and Currency Value.

The Chinese do not respect property rights. They give lip service and publicize raids on pirated property in China but it is like a drop of water in the Pacific Ocean. This allows companies in China to replicate protected property at a fraction of the cost. They then sell those items in China which cuts off the sale of similar items by companies that have the right to make the product. Then China begins selling that same pirated merchandise outside China thus reducing the sales of legitimate products in other countries.

The second major issue is that China sets the value of its currency separate from the market. They set the valve low so that goods produced in China are cheep in the U.S. and our goods are expensive in China. That stimulates the sale of goods made in China while inhibiting the sale of U. S. goods in China.

Bush has refused to address these two issues in a way that resolves the issues. Now that the trade deficit is off the scale, he sent this delegation to China. They came back empty handed. Not a single issue was either resolved or moved closer to resolution. However the Bush Administration spokesman when asked if that meant this trip was a failure said, “NO there were no specific objective set for this visit”

Bush has developed a new way to insure he can not be accused of failure—Set No expectations and then when NOTHING is accomplished he did not fail. That will be a great comfort to all those Americans that continue to loose their jobs because of the failure of China to abide by the most basic elements of International Law and our turning a Blind Eye to their actions. How ignoring the illegal actions of China and the resultant trade deficit helps Americans should be explained by President Bush at one of his news conferences!

Here I thought you might actually have a suggestion on how it should be/should have been done ... but nope. Nothing changes with you.

You remind me a lot of Bush. Your rhetoric is obviously flawed but you continue like the rest of the world around you is just plain crazy.

I am just reporting on what Bush has done. If you consider what he does as Crazy so be it.

I said you continue like the rest of the world is just crazy. I said nothing about Bush being crazy (or you for that matter).

You only bolster the point that I was making. You twist whatever it is to bash Bush. You're funny though ... sad ... but funny none the less.

Have a Merry 'alone' Christmas. I suspect you'll be blogging furiously about President Bush getting a stick of gum for Christmas dinner while the rest of the world goes hungry because he turned everyone’s Christmas goose in to road kill on purpose.

What is sad is that you and others are critical of my Blogs which are true and accurate. I did not in any way TWIST what took place. That was the statement of the Bush spokesperson. The trip did take place with NO results. The trade deficit is correct and I even provided the source. It makes no difference to people like you and others on this Blog site. If what I post does not reflect well on Bush it is ME that is wrong or twisting the facts. We have not had a President or administration that has twisted more issues then this administration. I do not look for these stories that are in our face EVERY DAY! In most cases the source is none other then various agencies of our government.

Have a great Christmas and let’s hope 2007 is better for our beloved country then the past 6 years.

JJ you likened Col G to Bush,

his rhetoric is flawed but he carries on regardless????? so does Bush? This implies some sort of craziness to my understanding.

Your comment about Col G being sad is so mean and nasty. Have a happy holiday JJ - a jolly warm and fuzzy holiday - be nice! Let the holidays and joy of christmas pick you up and wrap you in its love and warmth to thaw out that hardness in your heart!

Fine. I didn't comment on any of that. I could give two shakes about the content of your articles. I know that no matter what the punchline never changes.

Oh, my goodness, ColGene, you've opened my eyes. It's Bush's fault for the trade deficit, he held a gun to Clinton's head while Clinton signed the NAFTA and GATT treaties that started all of this.

You should get tapes from the Oval Office. I'm sure that brandishing firearms in the White House is an impeachable offense.

There's most assuredly fault here, ColGene. But in the case of the trade deficit, as much fault lies squarely in the lap of your idol William Jefferson Clinton as it does on either of the Bushes.

Gideon

I have said that the trade policies that started under Clinton did not work. The issue is that after 8 years of FAILURE under Clinton, Bush came to office and EXPANDS a policy that has NOT helped our country. WHY?

WHY does Bush ignore the violations by China which is the single largest part of the growing trade Deficit? I never said this problem started under Bush but when a rational person sees that something is NOT working they do not continue that failed policy. Bush not only continued the failed trade policy Clinton started but expanded it and DOUBLED our trade deficit!
