Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
The Surge has NOT Reduced the Violence Just Shifted it Within Iraq!
Published on June 14, 2007 By COL Gene In Politics

The report to Congress by the Pentagon acknowledges the overall violence in Iraq is as bad or worse then before the surge. The report covers the period from February thru mid-May. Although some sections of Baghdad have shown less violence there are still attacks in the capital almost every day. The experts predicted that the most likely result of the Bush Surge would be an up surge in violence in other areas of the country. That is exactly what has taken place.

The report also confirms the Iraqi Government has not met their political benchmarks and only a fraction of the increased Iraqi military forces have materialized to help staff the surge. In addition the second attack on the Golden Mosque is sparking a backlash and several Sunni Masques were attacked today. The fear is the latest attack on the Golden Masque will spark a new wave of violence and make the situation even worse.

Every day the picture becomes clearer and by the end of the summer with the report from Petraeus, Bush will be backed into a corner. Add the fact that the defense funding will expire on 30 September will mean we are headed for a very contentious fall. The Democrats will be looked upon to deliver on ending our involvement in the Iraq War. Republicans who are up for reelection in 2008 will be on the hot seat and the Bush popularity will hit yet another low. As all this plays out, our brave military will continue to die and be injured on a totally unnecessary war that is the bastard offspring of George W. Bush. This will be the Bush Legacy!

You seem to be happy that Mr. Bush will be backed into a corner. You do understand that if the news is bad for Mr. Bush it will also be bad for America, and great news for our enemy?

This is an easy lie to tell for you Mr. Gene, The truth which you have continued to ignore for months is what I have stated to you before I went to hospital. The "surge" has just started and is just over 50% complete. You have been saying it was a total failure a week after the "surge" started. This is called misinformation, a 6th grader would call it a lie.

“You seem to be happy that Mr. Bush will be backed into a corner. You do understand that if the news is bad for Mr. Bush it will also be bad for America and great news for our enemy?”

I will be very sad for all the troops that died and were injured needlessly. Happy is not the emotion I will have but one of disgust at what Bush has done.

The report said from Feb thru Mid May. However, you would expect SOME improvement but that has not been the case. Our troops started to arrive in late January. The real problem is that the report confirms that the Iraqi Government IS NOT MEETING THEIR REQUIREMENTS! There will be no solution without that part of the problem being resolved and Maliki is not delivering.

The Surge of U.S. Forces was complete last week with the 5th Combat Brigade.

“You have been saying it was a total failure a week after the "surge" started.”

That is because we have tried a Surge three times before and it failed each time. The surge does not solve the REASON for the VIOLENCE and thus I and many others said this latest Surge would NOT bring the violence under control!

Ok, try this on for size. The locals are happy we are there, they are turning in AQ types every day because of the surge. They have finally figured out that the news people are not telling the truth or reporting the news. Just in the last two months we have shut down two major bomb factories just because the locals told us where they were. We have closed down a bunch of weapons storage areas all because the locals want us to win. Not the politicians but the local people. The only people saying we are losing are the enemy, our own press, and people that want to see Mr. Bush take a hit to justify their hate of the man. The people that say we are winning are the troops on the ground, the locals that are supporting the troops on the ground and people that know that if we tell the world we are losing we have lost, and those that have died will have died in vein. Just like in Vietnam, a war we were winning but choose to give up instead of finishing the war. We are doing it again for the same stupid political reasons.

“ if we tell the world we are losing we have lost, and those that have died will have died in vein.”

We can not talk ourselves into stopping the violence. The fighting, destruction and death says we are loosing. After 4 1/2 years the violence is worse then ever. Three major bridges were destroyed this month and the golden Mosque was attacked again. The factions are no closer to ending their differences then a year ago. We are in the middle of a three way Civil War we can not win!

Yes Our troops have died in vein because of the fact GWB would not head the advice of people who knew Iraq and warned him of what would happen if we invaded this Moslem country that has had factions hating each other for 1,300 years.

78 Killed by Bombing at Baghdad Mosque

BAGHDAD - A truck bomb struck a Shiite mosque Tuesday in central Baghdad, killing 78 people and wounding more than 200, even as about 10,000 U.S. soldiers northeast of the capital used heavily armored Stryker and Bradley fighting vehicles to battle their way into an al-Qaida sanctuary.

The troops, under cover of attack helicopters, killed at least 22 insurgents in the offensive, the U.S. military said.

The thunderous explosion at the Khulani mosque in the capital's busy commercial area of Sinak sent smoke billowing over concrete buildings, nearly a week after a bombing brought down the twin minarets of a revered Shiite shrine in the northern city of Samarra and two days after officials lifted a curfew aimed at preventing retaliatory violence from that attack.

Gunfire erupted after the blast, which police said occurred in a parking lot near the mosque, causing the outer wall and a building just inside it to crumble.

Police and hospital officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they feared retribution, said at least 78 people were killed and 218 were wounded, adding that the toll could rise as bodies were pulled from the
