Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
DO NOT GO
Published on August 23, 2007 By COL Gene In Politics

The speech Bush gave to the Veterans of Foreign Wars yesterday shows our President is totally out of touch with events of today as well as events from the past. His analogy of not learning the lesson from Vietnam when we withdrew is totally the wrong lesson. What we learned from Vietnam is that we should not have become involved in that war and we sent our military into what became a quagmire with no way to win. The issue was not how we got out as Bush suggested, but the mistake of our getting into Vietnam. The irony is that Bush himself understood, “DO NOT GO to Vietnam", and his father arranged to keep him out of Vietnam by getting him a Commission in the Texas Air National Guard.

The depth of the President’s lack of understanding that was demonstrated by his speech yesterday is astounding. The stupidity of raising Vietnam before the VFW and to misapply the lessons learned shows just how unqualified GWB is to be the leader of this country. Bush also forgot that we were told that if we left Vietnam the “domino effect” would bring the entire region down. That was shown to be a totally wrong as well. He sighted the Killing Fields which, for the most part, took place in Cambodia not Vietnam. Yes, many will die after we depart Iraq, no matter when that takes place. These deaths will be the result of not how we depart from Iraq but because we invaded Iraq and were unable to prevent the growth of the violence that has and will kill the Iraqi people.

I hope all that voted for the Idiot currently in the White House understand just how big a mistake they made in 2000 and 2004! I have a feeling the Bushies are just like Bush himself and will never learn from their past mistakes!"

JUST LIKE BUSH. YOU DID NOT LEARN FROM VIETNAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lesson of Vietnam was that we should NOT have gone into that war just like in Iraq! The French warned us after they failed in that area. We did not listen just like Bush did not listen to people like Baker, Powell and Armitage. He also failed to learn the REAL lesson in Vietnam as he showed in his stupid speech yesterday.

Pot calling kettle black. Where were you when we fought in Vietnam Col?

His analogy of not learning the lesson from Vietnam when we withdrew is totally the wrong lesson.

From your point of you it isn't. But I bet he was applauded for his words? But hey, how could you have learned anything from Vietnam since you yourself once told us you didn't go to Vietnam because you were sent to some other mission over in Russia, Germany or some country within that vicinity. Talk about finding ways to stay away from Vietnam. I guess you were smart once, a coward but smart none the less.

On this point I agree with you. It is the wrong lesson!
The lesson is and always will be that when liberal democrats are in power we lose wars! Mr. Kennedy started the Vietnam war, Mr. Johnson escalated that war while at the same time mismanaged it into a quagmire. Keep in mind it was Mr. Nixon and the republicans that tried to end that war and was fought tooth and nail by the democrats until the only way we could lose the war was to walk away which we had to do when Congress cut all funding. When Mr. Carter started the war on terror he mismanaged it when Mr. Reagan was winning the Democrats fought him to gain political power rather than keeping the nation safe. When Mr. Clinton ignored the terrorist and allowed them to kill Americans without consequence he opened the door for more killings. Now Mr. Bush is fighting the war that Mr. Clinton ignored he is the bad guy. See the pattern? For liberals losing is good except during elections. We need to teach liberals that losing elections is good for the nation.

The NIE released yesterday clearly says that Bush policy is NOT working and the inability of the Iraq Government to control the violence in Iraq will most likely get worse over the next year. It says the current policy is not working to enable the Iraqi Government to govern and control the violence and it also says if we leave the violence will most likely get worse. In other words what Bush has managed to do is put our military is a NO WIN situation. We can stay and continue to have Americans die in a country where there is no prospect for the government to be able to govern or we can withdraw and see the Civil war get worse. WAY TO GO GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iraqi society’s growing polarization, the persistent weakness of the security forces and the state in general, and all sides’ ready recourse to violence are collectively driving an increase in communal and insurgent violence and political extremism. Unless efforts to reverse these conditions show measurable progress during the term of this Estimate, the coming 12 to 18 months, we assess that the overall security situation will continue to deteriorate at rates comparable to the latter part of 2006. If strengthened Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), more loyal to the government and supported by Coalition forces, are able to reduce levels of violence and establish more effective security for Iraq’s population, Iraqi leaders could have an opportunity to begin the process of political compromise necessary for longer term stability, political progress, and economic recovery.

Nevertheless, even if violence is diminished, given the current winner-take-all attitude and sectarian animosities infecting the political scene, Iraqi leaders will be hard pressed to achieve sustained political reconciliation in the time frame of this Estimate.

even this report states that the violence is being reduced.

“even this report states that the violence is being reduced.”

It is in some areas. It is also getting worse in others. The number of dead has NOT been reduced. The government which everyone acknowledges MUST solve the political issues to end the violence is not working and the NIE said it expects that government to become even LESS able to deal with the political issues in the next 12 months. WHAT possible reason is there for the U.S. to continue sustaining almost 100 dead and thousands injured each month and the spending of more then $12 Billion dollars each month?

It is time for the Iraqi People to deal with their internal disputes and if that means a wider Civil War so be it. We need to insure the conflict does not spill outside Iraq and that we continue to destroy al-Qaeda in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Now Gen Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to tell Bush time to cut troops in Iraq to 100,000. This is the TOP military officer-- WHAT EXCUSE WILL BUSH USE NOW to stay in Iraq?????

the over all number of attacks are down.

The number of dead has NOT been reduced.
