Bush cut funds for New Orleans Flood Control

Today the Washington Post reported Bush Froze the Army Corps of Engineers funding to improve the levees holding back Lake Pontcartrain. Bush has under cut the funding since Sept 2001. Budget cuts last summer stopped work on the New Orleans east bank for the first time in 37 years.
Every day more failures come to the surface about GWB!

I already posted about this after dubya stated that no one could have know the levees could break. Lying sack of shit. Now, I'll sit back and wait for puppy and guy to come along to defend their hero.

Actually, one of the main problems was that the ACoE was instructed to construct the sea walls to withstand only a catagory 3 hurricane, and this was before Bush was president. So don't try to lay this all at his door.

Even at a Cat 3, the levees were sinking, and the New Orleans officials were pleading for funds to fix them. they were denied, as the Corps diverted all money to the Iraq debaucle.

Let me ask you Lefties something....how many times have you failed to put back money for something that it turned out you needed? Maybe you decided to spend the money for new tires on a home theater system or lawn mower something, only to get a double blowout on the expressway at rush hour? Decided, perhaps, not to spend the extra money for insurance coverage that you ended up needing? It happens. It's a gamble. Do you have any evidence that the money for the levees was redistributed unfairly or for corruption? No...maybe it went to other public funding. You don't know.
We're all guilty of it, to one degree or the other. It's just that when it's the government and it costs lives, the recriminations start. Nobody can see the future, folks. And when you have maniacal bashers like you, ColdefectiveGenes and FoulMouth, nitpicking and taking anything you can to back up your unreasoning hatred, you forget that fact.

Bush said the flood control in New Orleans was a priority of his administration. How is it a priority when he first cut and the stopped the funding for the project? We had $300 Billion to spend on a war with a country that did not pose ANY danger to America but have no money to protect the 35th largest city in the U S ! Anyone that defends such action is simply un-American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, the destruction of wetlands is also a problem...bush I and clinton both saw the need to restore wetlands...dubyah did too until around 2003...the slow response of the national guard and lack of guard equipement? could be because that stuff is 7,000 miles away...
politicizing disaster? nah. saying that the federal government turned it's back on a city? sure. Bush was told that a New Orleans hurricane would be the deadliest disaster that the country could face and the 3rd most likely, after a terrorist attack in New York or an earthquak in San Francisco. Well, we've already seen how he ignored that report in 2000 about al-Qaeda, it looks like he ignored this one, too -- even worse, he cut the funding that could have alleviated some damage. Not to mention those missing guardsmen and equipment.
Iraqis are more important than Americans to the right, yes? Especially if those Americans are poor and black.

what does this have to do with the article?
Time for AMERICA to start working on AMERICA
sheesh, it's rather hard to for AMERICA to work on AMERICA when we're busy trying to work on IRAQ...I mean, that's where most of Louisiana's high water vehicles are now, y'know?

Why I'm feeding trolls, I don't know... call me bored, or maybe just tell me I that I'm not using the common sense I just commented on myself, but either way, here goes...
Where were the levees supposed to have been expanded to I ask the people that want to bash?
I read the same articles that the C.O.L. seems to have seen, and others -- including one from U.S.A. Today that talked about the engineering nightmare that is trying to protect New Orleans.
Better levees require bigger levees, which requires valuable real estate, and may involve using up precious protected wetlands that can't be touched thanks to the efforts of who again please?
Better pumps, maybe you can blame the lack of that stuff on money spent elsewhere, or maybe -- again, as I asked in my own article, maybe you can apply common sense and ask why were we protecting a city that has basically been sinking for how many years? One that probably shouldn't be there now, and probably shouldn't be rebuilt -- at least not in the same way.
Dance your happy Bush bashin' dance if you want. Add more replies that I ENCOURAGE EVERY ONE THAT MIGHT EVEN THINK OF ADDING TO TO CLICK "TROLLING" ON AND TAKE BACK THE POINTS YOU ARE WHORING. The same old one-note bashing goes on and on -- even as the Jazz in New Orleans lays silent because of a freak of nature (one that was destined yes, but still a freak storm none the less).
C.O.L. if you put even 1/10th the time into volunteering to help the country in some way as you do in wasting words in your bashin' blogs, then you are truly a man to be admired. Sadly, I'd bet you do nothing of the kind, as you instead sit and watch CNN and get gin'd up about more stuff you can bash on about.
And yet again, Dabe has pulled out the obscenity stick. I guess it's as hopeless a case as the C.O.L. is. I'd make the same comments about Dabe spending time volunteering with the Red Cross, or Habitat, or the Salvation Army or a bunch of others, but it strikes me that she'd much rather have the government do the job so she can complain about it not being done right, or claim it would have been so much better if W. wasn't in charge.
For the record, I don't believe I've tossed an obscenity around in this reply. Hopefully people that read it will not have to wade through noise and crap (ok, I guess I wrote "crap" once or twice) to get to the real issue, and as usual, those that have been around a while will see Dabe bashin the Bush supporters, the C.O.L. trying to get a bunch of points for another bashin' effort, and perhaps a string of replies and arguments from people that fall into the trap, or are bored and don't mind wasting time to correc the inaccuracies, half-truths and embellishments that are used to try to make a point that Bush is the devil and it's all his fault.

Higher. They wanted to make them higher. The problem was that they were sinking. Also, the steel was old and rotting.
God, why do I bother feeding trolls.

Did you bother to read the U.S.A. Today article I previously (in another thread) referenced on the issue?
Higher = need bigger base to support the weight that is added as the height is added.
So again, where were they going to get the real estate? It was clearly referenced in the article. U.S.A. Today - a fairly liberal source. Read and learn. Here's the link again
Engineers had warned of a looming disaster
BTW, if the C.O.L. had been reading other blogs, rather than devising a new Bush bashin' angle to try, he might have seen me clip the same basic information he's trumpeting today
yesterday

And to save you more time:
From Reuters/Yahoo! and other sources: Budget cuts delayed New Orleans flood control work
. Read it carefully though, and realize that even someone that is complaining about the lack of funding acknowledges that the problems with funding date back to the 1965 - and that is through several periods when liberals (Democrats mostly) controlled Congress, the Presidency and more.

So you're saying there's no one in the administration who has a better education and knows economics better than some of the average people or some "lefties"? Now you're learning.
