Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

George W. Bush is again threatening to Veto a new bill that would allow Federal Funding of Stem Cell Research. He argues that we can not destroy human life. What the President does not seem to get is the frozen stem cells that are left over from in-vitro fertilization will be destroyed as medical waste. The choice is not between life and destruction of these cells. The choice is destruction by incineration as medical waste or destruction to seek cures for disease. The Bush answer will destroy these cells with NO benefit to anyone and if he prevents their use in federally funded research they will not become human life and will ultimately be destroyed. WHY does Bush not understand this simple fact?

My statement is NOT A LIE. Research is conducted by separate principal investigators. The likelihood that cures will be discovered increases with more researchers working on the problem. The restriction of federal funding slows the pace of research. You simply do not understand the nature of research.

Ok, if you are telling the truth then tell me how many people in America are currently studying stem cells and doing the research?

Ok, if you are telling the truth then tell me how many people in America are currently studying stem cells and doing the research? I have no idea. But there would be MORE researchers doing research if federal Research money were available. That is what the vast majority of Congress wants and the majority of Americans. The Bush position that this would destroy human life in NOT valid if the only Stem Cells that would be allowed in federally Funded Research were the left over in-vitro cells that will be destroyed as medical waste.

This is my point, You have no idea but you say it could be faster. This is the same argument given with AIDS research. None of the advances in AIDS research came from government grants. All private sector money made the greatest advances. The grant money did little but line the pockets of the researchers. The cure for aids was the driving force because the money made from the people that suffer from aids would make back the research dollars spent.

If stem cells from embryos held so much promise they would be on it in a minute. They are doing it with adult stem cells and making break through after break through and happy with what they are doing.

That is what the vast majority of Congress wants and the majority of Americans.

If tha were true then they would easily put together a veto proof bill that the President could not stop. I think you exagerate too much.

The little part you leave out is that they have to progress the life process before you can get the cells. It is one step below cloning. To get the stem cells you have to fertilize the eggs allow it to grow to a certain point then kill the embryo to harvest the cells. So you mislead us a bit when you say it will be destroyed anyway. Yes, it will be destroyed but only after the life process has begun. An abortion something the President is against.

I am not part of the abortion argument, I am against abortion because I see the damage it does to the women that have had them. I have also paid for my daughters abortion which is why I am against abortion.

Now you're saying that the opinion of 54% (I don't remember the real % of 04 election) of the people 3 years ago is more important than the actual opinion of 60% right now?

I worked in this field for 3 years. I understand the research operation and know the impact of federal funds. Of the 36 active research projects I ran from an administrative aspect only ONE was not Federally Funded! The pace of research with federal Funding will be far greater then without that funding!!!!!

Cikomyr

The bill passed both houses of Congress on a bipartisan basis. It did not however achieve a 2/3 majority. That does not alter the fact that the basis of the President's objection is without merit. The left over stem sells will be destroyed if they are not used in research. Thus these stem cells will be destroyed with or with a bush VETO! If this bill were to become law, at least some of those left over stem cells would have a chance to help people. Under the Bush Veto they will help NO ONE!

Cikomyr,
Presidents are elected every 4 years, The majority of the people elected Mr. Bush for this term of office because they believed he would do what is best for our nation. Congress is elected every two, and six years. This gives the leaders a more intimate understanding of the needs and desires of the nation. If a majority of people are not happy with the president then the Congress can put together a majority that can override anything the president does. This has not happened which means the Congress is either not following the orders of the people they represent or they have no guts to follow the desires of the people they represent. I am guessing the first one. If a politician wants to be re-elected he has to take care of the people that put them in office. If our president was doing wrong the republicans would have to listen to the people and stop supporting the president or get kicked out of office. That does not hold true on the democrat side of the isle. My point is that there is not 60% of the nation that supports this or it would be law.

Bush won by 52% in 2004 ( He lost by about 1% in 2000) and since then the people have scene what his policies have done and in 2006 gave control of Congress to the Democrats. The ONLY reason the White House did not change power in 2006 is because the term of the president was not up. Thus the most recent election clearly shows what the American voters want and it is NOT what Bush and the GOP are pushing! The 2008 election will increase the margin of Democrat control of Congress and change control of the White House!

In 2008 the stem cell issue, Iraq, taxes, energy, environment and many other things will change when the democrats win the White House and increase their control over Congress.

It is good to haave hopes and dreams col. Gene. Yours is a noble one, because you are a true believer. Deranged as it might be it is good to hope and dream. My hope is that you learn and understand that the purpose of the different political parties and factions are no matter what be for the best for our country. Your misguided beliefe is the destruction of a man who is our president. What I mean to say is you put party above the nation and in that you are betraying your country.

After months or reading your drivel I question your patriotism, you will do what is not in the best interest of our nation for political gain of your party. The leaders of your party that you support would rather lose a war than let the man that beat them twice do what is best for the nation. That is a lack of focus on what is best for the nation for childish personal gain.
You cry about the corruption of the republicans in the 12 years that they were in power as if there was no such thing on your side of the isle. But even as your party is gaining power the corruption is coming to light. The reason the democrats lost power was because of their corruption. Just before they lost power five democrats had gone to jail for corruption. Over the last 40 years of being in power dozens of your party were forced out of office for putting their personal wealth ahead of the nations work. Dream of a perfect party that will put your socialist beliefs into action again. Just remember that socialism has never worked, and has always preceded the downfall of the nation. The funny thing is that we hear the same excuses from the left that we hear when socialist programs in the US fail. When the education system of the past 25 years was a proven failure the liberals that want socialism cried that we just did not spend enough. No matter how much money you pour into a failed system it will still fail. You take the minor setbacks in Iraq and want to quit, run away. Yet you have decades of failed programs and you wanted to keep pouring money into them. The democrats were the ones that started social security and they were ones that destroyed it. Don’t you see that your dream of a perfect party is never going to happen just like some fools dream of a perfect republican party. The best we can hope for is a melding of both parties to do what is best for our nation. Some liberal ideas are good and can work with conservative discipline. It used to be that the liberals had compassionate ideas and the conservatives fixed the mess created by them. Like husbands and wives the two working together is what makes it work. Your party is seeking a divorce which will destroy the nation if left in power. Your side has to lose for the good of the nation.

The issue is far more then just the corruption over the past 6 years. It is the change in policy or the lack of effective policies to deal with the major issues facing our country like energy, health care, boarder security and the fiscal problems of the budget, Medicare and Social Security. Bush and the GOP has either adopted policies that do not help the vast majority or have ignored the issue and done NOTHING! Add the Iraq War and our failed Foreign policy and my dissatisfaction and in fact the dissatisfaction of the majority of Americans is clear. You and some of the people that Blog on this site may be happy with Bush and the GOP leadership, however the majority of Americans do not want more of the same policies Bush and the GOP have given this country over the past 6 years! If you think the leaders of the GOP are not worried about the 2008 election you are in a DREAM WORLD!!!!!!!
