Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
Published on August 10, 2007 By COL Gene In Politics

President Bush expressed his opposition to an increase in the Federal Gasoline tax to provide the needed funding to deal with the 70,000 bridges that are in need of repair. The Chairman of the House Transportation Committee has proposed a 5 Cent increase in the 18.4 cent Federal gasoline tax to help provide the federal contribution to the Bridge Repairs. Bush only wants to look at reallocating the $24 Billion in Highway funds that are allocated by Earmarks. The vast majority of the $286 Billion of Federal Highway funds are given directly to the states for allocation to repairs within each state.

Here again we see the faulty judgment of Bush. The man wants to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic rather then steer away from the ice burgs. The magnitude of repairing 70,000 bridges is such that without added money the job can not be accomplished. President Bush is obsessed with not increasing taxes even when there is a clear NEED for more funding. We saw this in Katrina which is the LARGEST disaster we ever had in the United States. We see it in paying for the Trillion dollar war in Iraq. We see it in his refusal to increase taxes to fund Social Security and Medicare.

His father made a stupid pledge of “NO NEW TAXES”. However when it became clear to Bush 41 that added tax revenue was needed to move toward a balanced budget, he did what was needed not was good from him politically. GWB has not such integrity or vision of doing what is needed and right for the long term needs of our country. GOD help the next President. The unresolved issues that GWB will hand the 44th President will be daunting!

The $4 Trillion dollars that has been added to the debt and the $200 Billion more in interest we must pay every year is because of Bush and the GOP NOT the Democrats! Facts are facts even though you may not like them!!!!!

Who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares. No one ever pays what they owe us; chances are we probably won't pay this to who ever we owe it. This is all bull, Debt has never done damage to us before it won't now. Get over it already.

WHO CARES? ANYONE THAT PAYS FEDERAL INCOME TAX. Paying an added $200 BILLION EVERY year is a BIG DEAL! If the Liberals had added that to the budget you would be screaming about those free spending Democrats! IT IS NOT BULL!!! You are the one full of BULL S**t!

No I am anti spending on something that was unneeded and provides NOTHING toward our current needs. That interest pays for the PAST when Bush and the GOP wanted to spend MORE then they were willing to TAX!!!!!

No one cares Col. If people actually cared they would have done something about it. Thru out history both Democrats and Republicans have shown to be just as bad as the other when it comes to spending our taxes dollars but even worse are the American people who do nothing more than come to sites like these to cry about it as if that will fix the problem.

Cry all you want, this debt will eventually go away somehow, people will pay more taxes today and less tomorrow and this will repeat itself with every change of administration. Yet here we are, we still exist, we are still the most powerful country in the world. Though we have China stepping on our heals they need us as much as we need them.

You're the biggest baby I have ever seen Let me know when you start looking at the big picture in this country, or the world for that matter. Then we can talk some more.

Everyone cares about paying taxes. They just do not realize that ONE out of EVERY SIX dollars they pay in income taxes goes to interest on the debt. When the money we are paying in interest is needed to help Social Security and Medicare they will care! The failure is that our leaders should care about the long term financial health of our country. They do NOT!

THIS IS THE BIG PICTURE. Listen to what the Comptroller General has to say.

If you do not believe the financial health of this country is part of the BIG PICTURE, you are kidding yourself. To be PAYING ONE out of every SIX Dollars on interest is a CRIME. That interest does nothing to meet the needs of our country. It does not pay one person in our military. It does not help one college student get an education. It does not pay one border guard. It pays for the PAST and years when we spent MORE then we were willing to Tax! IT IS IRRESPONSABLE!

yes but the democrats don't want to tax more and pay off debt. they want to tax more so they can spend more.

and that is where the problem is.

as i said if i was president.

the only thing i would pay until payed off was the debt. and any absolute things that needed to be payed. but congresses pay, and mine would be gone.

The first step is to STOP adding to the deficit by balancing the budget. Then we must begin generating a REAL SURPLUS that is applied to paying down the debt. Any new spending must be paid by added revenue or cuts in other areas. If we are not willing to pay for new spending then we should not add new programs that require added money. However, Bush and the GOP is not willing to tax enough to pay for what we are currently spending without any new programs! For example the Iraq war cost.

You are correct. I accept reality but Bush and most that still support him live in a world so far from reality it is hard to believe we are all on the same planet.

I think all liberals should have their taxes increased by 400% the very very rich liberals should have to pay 98% of all the money the have now, will ever have, will ever think about having. There you go end of problem.

Most? So not everyone who supports Bush lives on another reality? Well keep in mind we can all live on the same planet and be in different realities. For example, you live in a reality world where you think you accept reality, but only you would believe that 70,000 bridges can be fixed with a single highway and transit bill and can be fixed over night. Only you in your reality believes that an infrastructure like the steam pipeline of New York can be fixed when in reality it would bring the city that never sleeps to a halt and millions of dollars will be lost replacing the system due to all the streets taht will need to be shut down while the city breaks the roads to reach thes epipes that in many places can be as far as 150 feet down. Even replacing them with new pipes is unrealistic.

Perfect example of someone that will not accept reality nor who wants to resolve the issues facing America. The Editorial Cartoon today in the Philadelphia Inquirer shows Bush under a bridge that is falling down on him and he is saying, "NO NEW TAXES".
