Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

A bill that would provide significant movement to deal with making America more energy independent passed the House. The Senate Republicans threatened a Filibuster and the White House threatened a VETO of this bill. Below is a summary of the provisions of this important legislation:

Highlights of energy legislation in the House.
_ Car Mileage: Requires automakers to increase the fuel economy of cars and small trucks, including SUVs, by 40 percent to an industry average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020.
_ Renewable motor fuels: Requires a sevenfold increase in the use of ethanol as a motor fuel to 36 billion gallons a year by 2022, with two-thirds to be cellulose ethanol from such feedstock as prairie grass and wood chips. Has tax incentives for renewable fuels plants.
_ Taxes: Includes a $21 billion tax package, including a rollback of $13.5 billion in tax breaks for the five largest oil companies. The revenue is to be used for tax incentives to promote renewable fuels and energy efficiency.
_ Electricity: Requires electric utilities to produce 15 percent of their power from renewable energy such as wind, solar or biomass. Some of the mandate could be satisfied by utilities promoting efficiency or buying renewable energy credits.
_ Energy efficiency: Requires increased energy efficient appliances and improvements in energy efficiency of federal and commercial buildings. Also requires faster approval of federal energy efficiency standards.
_ Hybrid cars: Creates tax incentives to develop plug-in hybrid electric cars and establishes tax credits for buying the vehicles.

WHY is Congress not getting anything done? The GOP and President Bush! No matter what the majority in Congress attempt is either blocked by the GOP Senators or the White House. Time to get ride of the GOP in November 2008!

That is crap. the Bush policies are killing the middle class and only the rich do well!

and your idea policy will do it faster.

when did the rich start getting richer and the poor poorer. it was after they implemented the income tax.

true some of the rich were getting rich before but over all everything was balanced.

now if your a poor man and you want to get rich there is a big obstacle in the way. i call it the federal government. the more money you make the more money you have to give to the government. i call that taxes,

Mine are too. Why should I buy a hybrid car?

But you are contributing to the problem.  Isn't it better for the "greater good" you speak of to stop driving?

BS.  First of all, the middle class is not being killed.  Secondly, if the "rich" are doing well it's because of themselves, not government assistance.  Is it pure jealously that drives your hatred for successful Americans?

Hey, Col, so you know what they call someone who preaches one set of rules and lives by a different set of rules? They're generally called "hypocrites"!

You are a liar-- I have insulated my home, installed a high efficiency heating system and changed my light bulbs with the low electric use type. The time for a new car has not come. What have you done to save energy?

OK, one...I'm not the one stating there is a crisis, you are!

Two, well, let's see, compact flourescent bulbs in every light fixture in the house, a 13 inch TV, wood heat to supplement gas heat. My electric bill never tops $60 a month, and I use about $50 a week in gasoline. My family of eight uses fewer resources than many families of two.

But let's continue with these red herrings. Want to know what brand of underwear I use next?

I see you are still using outdated propaganda as usual.  I have already gone through this with you before gene, it's no use wasting my time on someone who obviously a DNC hack.

Take a ride to Best Buy and see how bad the middle class is really doing gene.

Not vote for democrats.

Tell us again gene why we can't build any nuclear plants or cleaner, more efficient oil refineries.....

My WORDS ARE TRUE and I repeat them because the IDIOTS on this Blog Site continue to burry their heads in the sand!

, if you think people on this site are such idiots, why do you spend so much time here? You know what they say, it takes one to know one.

Because my cars are fine now!

Another reason why people like you will never get anywhere with your BS. You bitch about the president not doing anything to change things and here you are driving a gas wasting 1998 and 2002 car. A few lightbulbs and some insulation and he thinks he's king of conservation. What a hypocrite. Most new house and buildings are designed to be more efficient, most appliances are more efficient today than they were 2 years ago. Even computers use less power now, though people put more stuff in the that pretty much brings it back up, but anyways.

I just bought a 2007 4 cylinder car that gets 25 to 28 MPG. I maintain my A/c unit at 77 during the day. we use very little water. I make sure to keep any and all necessary lights and electrical equipment off. I have not changed any lightbulbs cause for the moment they are expensive and I am renting so I will end up taking those lights with me and that seems alike a hassle. Is there any more you think I should do? Or should I go and buy an expensive hybrid to satisfy your hypocrisy?
