Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

A bill that would provide significant movement to deal with making America more energy independent passed the House. The Senate Republicans threatened a Filibuster and the White House threatened a VETO of this bill. Below is a summary of the provisions of this important legislation:

Highlights of energy legislation in the House.
_ Car Mileage: Requires automakers to increase the fuel economy of cars and small trucks, including SUVs, by 40 percent to an industry average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020.
_ Renewable motor fuels: Requires a sevenfold increase in the use of ethanol as a motor fuel to 36 billion gallons a year by 2022, with two-thirds to be cellulose ethanol from such feedstock as prairie grass and wood chips. Has tax incentives for renewable fuels plants.
_ Taxes: Includes a $21 billion tax package, including a rollback of $13.5 billion in tax breaks for the five largest oil companies. The revenue is to be used for tax incentives to promote renewable fuels and energy efficiency.
_ Electricity: Requires electric utilities to produce 15 percent of their power from renewable energy such as wind, solar or biomass. Some of the mandate could be satisfied by utilities promoting efficiency or buying renewable energy credits.
_ Energy efficiency: Requires increased energy efficient appliances and improvements in energy efficiency of federal and commercial buildings. Also requires faster approval of federal energy efficiency standards.
_ Hybrid cars: Creates tax incentives to develop plug-in hybrid electric cars and establishes tax credits for buying the vehicles.

WHY is Congress not getting anything done? The GOP and President Bush! No matter what the majority in Congress attempt is either blocked by the GOP Senators or the White House. Time to get ride of the GOP in November 2008!

It will be nice to see his reaction when things don't turn out quite the way Gene anticipates.

Unlike Chicken Little, here, the sky won't fall for me if someone I disagree with ends up in the WH.

Only, Time will tell.

I have to say, I will be sad to see Bush go. Once he does, Col will have no more BS to write except maybe some flashback articles. I kinda enjoy watching him work his broken record routine, how he manages to blame a single man for every bump in the road this country goes thru, how he ignores the good stuff and only focuses on the bad things. Has anyone noticed Col has not posted a single Iraq article for about 2 weeks? That he has now been focusing on the economy? Kinda like that article Island Dog wrote.

You are the one that takes polls as the only word.  The polls aren't that great for democrats, and they aren't offering anything but their same old brand of socialism.

If you look back at all of genes posts, you will see that he follows talking points that come from the DNC, Democrat leaders, or far left websites.  He is just doing what democrats and the media are doing, trying to convince everyone that they are so poor that only democrats and their government funding and higher taxes will make things better.

You can't mean that Gene is a parrot, can you? Perish the thought.

The economy is the number one issue today and that is BAD for the GOP!

It's only bad if they don't get out there and tell the American people that socialized healthcare and the other social programs that democrats are proposing will increase taxes on everyone.

Democrats are doing their best to convince stupid people that they only way they can live is for democrats and the government to take care of them.  How pathetic.
