Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

There was a day when the interests of Big Business were more in line with what was best for America. That day is over. Today the drive for higher and higher profits by large international companies is eliminating American jobs and this country is rapidly becoming indebted to the rest of the world.

Our country is becoming dangerously dependent of foreign producers for our most basic needs. Trade agreements make it difficult for American made goods to be sold to other countries and we are allowing dangerous goods to flood our country. We do not insure that we have FAIR trade just so called Free Trade which means cheep foreign made goods can be sold freely in this country while our goods are taxed by foreign governments or currency rates are set that make our products to expensive for foreign buyers to afford.

Senator Edwards is correct- Our government polices are being directed by Big Business to help their bottom line and is corrupting our politicians! We can not maintain economic strength with everything we need made outside this country. It endangers both our economic and strategic security.

OUR founding Fathers provided for things like the military, commerce, the treasury and the ability to levy taxes. I guess they were also socialists! YOU ARE A FOOL!

Once again when gene loses he results to the insults.  Your problem is gene you want a welfare, nanny state where everyone should depend on the government for their every need, and the government should help them out with every aspect of their lives.

business we would need to increase Income taxes even more!
business tax is a hidden income tax

Does that mean you support higher income taxes if Business Taxes were reduced?

We are not killing Business we are killing the American Worker. Companies in their pursuit of higher and higher profits move operations to other countries and leave American workers with low paying service jobs and destroy our ability to make ANYTHING. The real question is do we allow companies do anything for higher profits even if what they are doing is destroying American Jobs and the manufacturing base in America? There needs to be a balance where we continue to make the essentials of our society and along with manufacture in other countries. We are allowing loop holes in our trade and tax policies to destroy the manufacture of products in this country which will be our downfall! No one dispute that companies need to make a profit. However is the quest to maximize profits justification for destroying American industry and the American worker? My answer to that is HELL NO. Bush and his policies have helped corporate profits at the expense of manufacturing in this country. We have doubled our trade deficit and countries like China who manipulates the value of their currency which makes the sale of American made products impossible. Allowing China to violate property rights. Allowing China to sell products that are dangerous in our Country MUST STOP. Bush has stood by as there things run ramped. Sending our Treasury Secretary to China has done nothing. Why IS Bush not looking to establish FAIR trade and to help protect American Jobs? Why is he not encouraging the manufacture of goods in America? Why is he not encouraging Americans to buy American made products?

I'll grant you this. Therefore, the best thing would be to decrease the power of the government so that big business doesn't have an incentive to corrupt the government. The best way to shrink government is to lower taxes and cut programs.

We need to change our tax laws that allow companies to form these off shore shams to avoid U.S. taxes. We need to have trade policies that deal with currency manipulation and tariffs that are being added to our products. We need to offset subsidies that foreign governments give to foreign companies. We need to provide both incentives to create American manufacturing jobs and penalties for moving American Jobs to other countries

Exactly how would you change the tax law? Specifically what would you do?

Moreover, what do you think the net effect of a change in tax law?  Let's say you increased taxes on every corporation in the US by say 50%.  What do you think the effect would be?

Taxing companies is just taxing individuals but indirectly. It also makes US based companies less competitive in the world market.

Imagine a scenario where corporation income taxes were raised to being say 90% and that it was so full-proof that we were able to eliminate personal income taxes.  What would be the effective result? The exact same as a sales tax since users of these products would have to pay for these taxs in the form of higher prices.

Liberals are usually the ones against a national sales tax but it's amazing how they'll favor the same thing if it's worded differently.

Who is "our"?

If I run a company, then my job is to maximize profits for my owners. Period. That's the whole point. Whatever legal method is available to me is what I should take to do just that.

If I can maximize profits by outsourcing all my workers to India, then that is what I should do.  If I can build a factory in Mexico to save me money and still have the same product, then I would do so.

Why should a business manager care one way or the other about what nationality is working for them? I thought liberals were against racism. Are you suggesting we should discirminate against other people simply because they happened to have been born in a different arbitrarily defined location?

If Americans are losing jobs, then the question is, why? The most likely cause is that employing Americans or doing business in the United States is more expensive than employing workers in other countries or doing business in other countries.

What is the solution to that?  Either to decrease the cost of doing business in the United States or to increase the cost of doing business in other countries which is not really possible.

NO the principal reason is wages. They can pay as little as 1/20 the labor cost. You are as usual incorrect about business taxes. That is a reason but not the major reason -- It is their desire to maximize profits by reducing the number one cost to make MOST things-- LABOR! Not only are the labor rates lower, they have NO benefits in countries like China and they can use child and slave labor to further lower their overall labor costs! Then they set their currency exchange rates to further lower the cost relative to goods made in the U.S. Bush has IGNORED ALL OF THERE THINGS in his trade policy!

CUT WHAT PROGRAMS? AND BY HOW MUCH? Statements like you make are USELESS to find a solution to our budget problems!

That action is what is harming American Workers and will undermine this country by eliminating all manufacturing in this continues like it has been during the past 20 years! When everyone is left with service jobs paying $10-12 per hour, no one will be able to afford to live!

A National Sales tax will kill the low and middle income tax payers. It will exempt tax for the upper income people because they do not spend all their income. In fact people that are in the very top will get a bonanza because the majority of their income would not be taxed while the low and middle income workers could pay tax on MOST of their income. The national Sales tax will not work and does not consider the "ABILITY TO PAY". We need a simplified progressive Income tax that ends special interest exemptions and deductions, continue and increase the personal exemptions so it is large enough to enable low income people to live. Deductions for State and local taxes, Mortgage interest for up to two homes, charitable deductions and provisions for uncovered health and casualty losses should be continued. No lower rates for dividends, capital gains with the exception of the sale of your home and a limit on tax exempt interest! End the tax on Social Security for people with Taxable incomes below $150,000. If we END the tax loopholes, we could do away with the AMT because the rich would no longer have a way to escape paying Income Tax.
This would enable the IRS to cut staff and we would not have the lost tax collections which would help solve the budget deficit!

I would also support 10% surtax on incomes above $500,000 to be used to pay down the National Debt. It would continue until the national debt was paid down to $1 Trillion Dollars. The reason for this is because a great deal of the national debt is BECAUSE of the tax cuts to the wealthy.

the unions.

you will note that i include the unions in this.

i did however neglict to include minimum wage

you see if the minimum wage doesn't go up. then prices won't go up and the unions won't have a good reason for their wage increase. and if the union members don't get a wage increase then the unions can't get a fee increase.

we already make 4 times the average wage of mexico.

Prices go up to both cover increased costs and to enhance profits. Very few were helped by the first phase of the higher minimum wage increase because most people earned MORE then the Minimum wage. Inflation is at 4.6% per the Fed and the biggest element is the increased energy costs not wages!

The cost to live in America is a lot more then 4 times more then in Mexico. We support a child in Mexico via the Christian Children’s Fund and from the letters we receive from our child what the money we send buys in Mexico is more many times what that same money would buy in the U.S.
