Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

The articles in Time this week have clarified a number of issues that have been bouncing around Joe User. The first issue is the status of Valerie Plame in the CIA. Many bloggers on Joe User have claimed she was not a covert CIA Agent. The CIA, in a very unusual action, confirmed that Valerie Plame was in fact an NOC covert agent. This is an agent who works undercover without the protection of any diplomatic immunity and are the agents in the most danger for themselves and the contacts that they develop in living their double life for the CIA. These agents are difficult to establish and are the type of agent that was intended to be protected under 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act. Unfortunately, this law was designed to be very difficult to violate and the one thing that the Time articles did not address is whether Rove or Libby met all the technical requirements that violated this particular statute.

The second issue that was clearly documented in the Time articles was the fact that it was Karl Rove that first identified Wilsonâ's wife as a CIA operative to Matt Cooper of Time magazine. It was not another reporter, it was Rove. In addition, Rove told Cooper Valerie was involved in the WMD which has also been confirmed by the CIA. In addition, Matt Cooper testified before the grand jury that Scooter Libby, the vice presidentâ's chief of staff, confirmed the fact that Wilsonâ's wife was a CIA operative working on WMD. It is now clear that the two White House staff members mentioned in the Bob Novak article which identified Valerie Plame as a CIA Agent were Rove and Libby.

These two individuals consistently lied saying that they were not involved with identifying Wilsonâ's wife as a CIA agent. It is likely that President Bush was unaware at the outset that Rove and Libby were the White House staffers that outed Plame given the fact that Bush said he would fire the persons responsible for identifying Plame as a CIA agent. No one knows exactly when Bush and Cheney learned it was their principal assistants that had loose lips but Bush has now changed the criteria to being convicted of a crime not merely violating the spirit of law which was to protect agents such as Valerie Plame.

Time magazine has done us a great service in identifying Rove and Libby as liars who endangered one of our CIA. Agents. In addition to the potential harm to Plame, there is the danger to people Valerie Plame worked with while she lived her secret life as a covert agent. That is why the CIA went to the Justice Department and a Special Prosecutor was appointed. It is also the reason that the FBI is conducting a major investigation of this matter. Only Patrick Fitzgerald, the Special Prosecutor will be able to determine whether Rove or Lobby actually violated the complex law intended to protect the identity of clandestine operatives in the CIA. There is no question that Rove and Libby are the people that violated at least the spirit of law and lied to the American people. It is time for President Bush to follow his original commitment to terminate Rove and Libby for their actions in identifying one of our covert CIA Agents.

I haven't read the Time article yet (more on this when I do), but from what you've said it sounds kinda like blaming Jimmy Olsen for outing Superman, when all he did was confirm that Clark Kent worked for the Daily Bugle.

Or did you mean that "Valerie Plame, known CIA analyst, drives to work at CIA headquarters every morning in a convertible" is the super-secret Mission Impossible secret identity?

I'd like to offer kudos to Time for carrying out its duties as a integral part of our judicial systeml, faithfully prosecuting evil-doers and condemning the guilty without the need for a trial.

You sad little cretins and your petty puppet press. Time doesn't "prove" a damned thing, especially since they are up to their necks in this situation. If they WERE a prosecutor they'd have to step aside since their own people are involved.

You are intellectually invalid, Col. You present other people's arguments with no ability to defend them, only reiterate them over and over and ignore the people who differ with you. Time isn't a court. You are a hypocrite, since you demanded Rove go to the "courts", and now you aren't even interested in justice, you just want people fired because you don't like them.

This is the extension of the same mindless vendetta you have been carrying on for years. You're a hateful, sad little man. Time has no authority, and shouldn't be the authority that ruins or criminalizes people. The fact that you accept them as such makes your argument transparent.

You might read the Washington Post Article today which clearly states that the information that Valerie Plame was a covert CIA agent was classsified " Secret" What we have is Jimmy Olsen telling the world that Clark Kent is Superman! The CIA considers the revelation about Mrs Plame a VERY serious issue and is why we have a SP and an FBI Investigation. Rove and Libby did exactly what the law was trying to prevent- Identify covert CIA Operatives! In addition they both lied for the past two years when they said they had NOTHING to do with making the idendity of Mrs Plame public. I guess telling reporters is a way to keep it classified!!! Both these two should be fired ASAP!

Bakerstreet.

TIME did not comment on the legal status of Rove or Libby. They identified them as the SOURCE of the information. That is FIRST HAND from Cooper who learned she was a CIA Agent from Rove and then confirmed by Libby! Thus the source of the outing has been established. The issue of violating the law is still an open issue!

And the fact that you accept unquestioningly the word of a press organization INVOLVED IN THE WHOLE SCANDAL proves how much you are willing to suspend disbelief in order to toss a little political bomb. Smarter, more 'in-the-know' people than you and I readily admit that there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.

All you want to do is to toss your your little handful of poo, and hope it makes a smear, whether it sticks or not later. Heaven forbid you wait for the real results to make up your mind. That's it for me. Two bumps are more than this deserves.

No, no, this is fun! I'll happily bump it again (and again, after I've read the article Gene refers to; it'll be my first opportunity to compare his interpretations against reality--but I gott ask myself, am I prepared to give Gene credit, if I discover he's described the Time article accurately?).

It also may be of interest to know that Matt Cooper's wife, Mandy Grunwald, is a top aide to Hillary Clinton. No chance Cooper could have learned anything via that channel, I'm sure, and no chance that Cooper might have anything less than pure motives here.

This whole lynch-mob fever thing is really disgusting. Gene is nearly orgasmic. For awhile following the election, the leftist MSM were a bit back on their heels, but they've regained their footing and have now resumed their campaign of disinformation with a vengeance. Not just Time, but Newsweek this week as well. If I get the time, I'm going to post a review of all the unfounded assumptions and accusations made in Newsweek's attack pieces.

The MSM have simply accepted that there was, as Gene called it, an "all-out campaign" on Wilson's credibility and that outting Plame was knowingly done for the specific purpose of undermining or discrediting Wilson. This has never been shown to be the case, and despite asking the question repeatedly in these forums, noone, least of all Gene, has explained how the revelation of Plame's identity, even if intentional, would achieve the purported objective. Even if, as I expect, the Special Prosecutor determines that neither Rove nor Libby had any intent to disclose the name of a covert agent and that they had no criminal culpability, the left will claim that "not using the name" was just hairsplitting and the equivalent of the "depends on what the meaning of is is" Clinton testimony, or that they "should have known better" or that Rove (and now Libby) must be held to the "spirit" of the law, not the actual law. And Gene can pound his chest all he wants about the "damage done" by Plame being identified and the "lives put at risk" as a result, but that's all just melodramatic bullshit. Even Wilson admits his wife was not a covert agent at the time, and evidence suggests she hadn't been in a clandestine capacity since ~1997. Neither Rove nor Libby initiated the conversations that became the nidus for this whole fiasco - they were responding to inquiries from reporters and neither of them brought up the subject of Wilson themselves. That hardly meets any reasonable definition of an "all-out campaign" to get Wilson.

It is one of life's little ironies that Gene chose to title his blog "Bush Truth" - his blog (and his life, apparently) is devoted wholly to tarring and feathering Bush, truth be damned.

My Blog title is as stated, "BUSH TRUTH" The problem is some JoeUsers refuse to accept "the truth" about Saint George. If this was not a serious issue, WHY was a SP appointed and WHY a major FBI Investigation? Face it- Rove and Libby lied and have been cought RED HANDED!!! Time will tell if they also broke the LAW. Now Bush is in Damage control mode rather then do what he said he would do which is to fire those who made it public that Mrs. Plane was a CIA Agent!

Hey butthead! Why is that you can't seem to wait for the investigation to be completed before laying blame? This is getting old QUICK!
on Jul 21, 2005
I have no problem "facing" what I see - a public lynching attempt based on the thinnest of pretenses. The palpable desire of this media generation to have its Watergate, and its efforts to fabricate one if necessary, is the sad, pathetic "truth" here. Their careers will have been for nought without a few trophy scalps; truth appears to have little to do with it. And I believe it is a "serious issue" because the press has made so much of it - I'll let others who know correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe "the CIA went to the Justice Department" to request an investigation. I believe it was the administration that requested the investigation, precisely because of the media hysteria.

The GJ testimony of the reporter ( Cooper) who Rove and Libby told Mrs. Plame was a CIA Agent is not the " thinnest of pretenses". It is hard evidence that Rove and Libby were the two WH staff that spilled the beans! As I said in my Blogg, I do not think Bush knew Rove and Libby told Cooper and Novak she was a CIA Agent. He most likely learned when he began directing his staff to cooperate with the FBI Investigation. As soon as he learned it was Rove and Libby, he most likely believed that the reporters would not give up their source and no one would learn the truth. it was the Supreme Court refusing to overturn the contempt citations against the reportes that put Bush in a bad position. Now he looks like an a*s by changing his position on firing thoes who outed Mrs Plame!

You presume too much, Gene. Your mind-reading license expired long ago.

The TIME article is NOT mind-reading. It clearly said, Cooper told the GJ it was Rove that outed Plame to him and Libby that confirmed it. That is not Mind-Reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The article quoted is NOT EVIDENCE! Wait until the investigation is over to lay blame or assign guilt!

Please don't feed the non-truth telling poo flinging troll. It is completely counter productive and will never change the mind of the omniscient Clueless Old Liberal and his followers...

Ignorance is bliss. Ignore the bait and let his ilk choke on their own words and lack of response to same. It's the best offense and best defense.
