Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.
Published on November 30, 2005 By COL Gene In Politics
President Bush has not addressed a audience of average Americans since the presidential debate in 2004. Every time Bush gives a speech it is before either a pre-screened group or the military. Why is the president afraid to address unscreened audiences?

You are just DUMB! ...If I'm "just dumb", then you must be "just as stupid... Fool. yourself!

What happened to this thread? It's degenerated to "You're dumb" and "No, you're dumb!" I expect more from all JUsers.

I am not a liberal. I have been a MODERATE Republican for over 40 years.

I'm glad you have, but it's the first we've heard of it. How are we to think your views when you have been so rabidly, drum-bangingly against Bush and his policies for your entire blogging career? I mean, even the name of your blog is "Bush Truth". The name of your book is "Four More Years of George W.?" Both proceed to cite all the bad things you see in the Bush administration.

For someone who claims to be conservative, you don't seem to have conservative philosophies. In fact, you scream ideologies that are against everything the current flag-wavers of conservatism, the Republican Party, even give a hint of supporting.
So again, what are we to think? Someone that blinkardly against Republican principles and policies must be a liberal.

Republican Principals (Moderate Republicans) include:

No Nation Building i.e. no Iraq.

Balanced Budget - Not the Charge and Spend policy of the conservatives.

Proterct our borders Not ignoring the millions that have violated our laws.

Protect American Jobs. Not the so called free trade policies that have driven the trade deficit to an all time high.

Protect Social Security Not divert trillions to private accounts and drive the system into even greater fiscal problem.

Conservatives represent at best 25% of Americans. Why then should we have policies that only meet the needs of that 25% to govern 100%?

Why should Bush play to his base and ignore the majority? Was he elected President of the conservatives or President of ALL Americans?

It is time to END the conservative agend and adopt policies that the majority want!

Tex, before you start talking about this, maybe you should go look at the col's reply #33. "He's" the one that started with the "drop dead routine". All I said was "same to ya". Now one here has wished the col dead.

And you'd be "wrong" once again.

Even those with impeccably liberal pedigrees are making this argument, such as Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne. "According to the network exit polls, 21 percent of the voters who cast ballots in 2004 called themselves liberal, 34 percent said they were conservative and 45 percent called themselves moderate," Dionne wrote. "Those numbers mean that liberal-leaning Democrats are far more dependent than conservatively inclined Republicans on alliances with the political center. Democrats second-guess themselves because they have to." Meanwhile, Michael Barone of the National Journal looked at the same numbers and pronounced us to have "a conservative electorate." Evan Bayh, a probable candidate for president, cited the same figures to argue for a more centrist Democratic Party. "Do the math," he said. Noam Scheiber of The New Republic pronounced the liberal/conservative/moderate split "the most important thing you need to know about contemporary politics."

Gene, shouldn't the title of your article be, "Bush Hidden from Average Americans"?

After all, millions of average Americans watch TV and listen to the radio all the time. Why don't these media outlets carry his speeches more prominently?

Why is the media hiding the words and deeds of our President from us? Why do the major news organizations not dedicate more of their airtime to bringing the President's ideas and proposals to the American public?

I mean, it's like he needs to nationalize the media, and require mandatory weekly programming of his half-day speeches, like Hugo Chavez does... or does that sound a little too much like a dictatorship for your taste?

Within the past several weeks I have sceen Bush giving speaches on TV . Every one was before a live audience that was either hand picked or the military. That is my point. He never speaks before a live audience that is composed of a cross section of Americans. They are all a set up before supporters or the military. What is he afraid of? Why not address a real cross section of people both supporters and those that do not support him. If Bush wants to improve his ratings, speaking to those that already support him will not help.

The real issue is to have Bush alter his policies to meet what the majority want. Not Bush-- He knows one thing " Stay the Course" What he will not accept is that the course he is on is not one that the majority want to follow. There is not a single major issue where that majority support him. From Social Security to Iraq. Every position he takes creates more tension within the US and overseas.

What is he afraid of?

He's "afraid" that too many disruptive hecklers will put him off his intended words. He'd like to be able to deliver his message in a civilized manner. No one should have to put up with unruly hecklers. Should he meet with the every Joe Blow crazy protestor screaming and throwing epithets outside the Crawford ranch too?
on Dec 02, 2005
If the President can not address a group of average Americans, one should ask what is wrong with the President's message? Even Bush should understand he needs a different message. Stay the Course is not what people want to hear.
