Evaluation of the policies of George W. Bush and his Republican conservatives on America.

Now Bush wants to consider requiring higher mileage for Cars, SUV’s and Trucks. Five years ago when the experts told Bush that increasing gas mileage was the MOST effective mid term help he refused to consider that option. All Bush wanted to do is hand the Big Oil companies more money and drill in Alaska.

The profits oil companies are making provide ALL the added capital needed to increase exploration and to build new refining facilities. Has this been taking place with these huge profit increases? NO! If Bush had taken effective action in 2001 or 2002, we would be seeing the impact beginning NOW. His inaction is a perfect example of just how ineffective and impotent a leader he has been since January 2001. He has done NOTHING in 5 ½ years to begin solving the energy problems of this country.

Did you have a Tax Deduction option if you bought a Hybrid vehicle?

I can answer that, yes, 2,000 first year, 900 second and 600 third.

Gene - once again you have your head shoved up your ass. I work in oil and gas. I am intimately familiar with how the market works. The very first point where you are wrong is, the price of gas has nothing to do with America. This is a world market product.

Ted was right when he said this is equilibrium in the market. If you are upset about the price at the pump try giving up a trip here or there. Ask a friend, can we carpool? This will have the single greatest effect on the market. Gid said it best in another thread. Oil companies have no use for un-purchased gas.

If the president had made a requirement for all vehicles to be more fuel efficient in 2001 the big auto makers would still be bitching and moaning and little or nothing would be done.

As long as the general population is jumping in their 148 cylinder Ford Excursion School Bus Edition to go get a gallon of milk when that trip could easily wait to be on the way to or from something else we are not going to see a drop in prices. Conservation is the answer. More fuel efficient cars are not (even though they will help).

Even if they made them, Can you go out and buy a new car to save a few more miles per gallon? I am the average American and I have to drive a car into the ground. I just can't afford to do it any other way, but I'm sure that is somehow Bush's fault.

And MM where did this tax break come from?
on Apr 28, 2006
It came from the senate. after being introduced first to a Democaratic Senate in 2001. It wasn't until 2003 that it finally passed. There are things that have been done to raise the consumer awareness and interest into purchasing these energy efficient vehicles. But Col instead of pointing to the American people you point it to Bush.

You all miss the point. Leaders lead. They find solutions to difficult situations even when that had no part in their creation. Bush has done NOTHING to move us closer to a solution to ANY major issues that faced him when he became President and has created a huge fiscal mess with his tax and spend policies. He has creates another major issue by attacking Iraq that has created security, diplomatic as well as financial problems for our country.

Bush will go down as a president that solved NOTHING and allow the issues facing America get progressively worse while he was in office.

Col,

What do you drive? What are YOU doing to conserve gas?
on Apr 28, 2006
I drive a small pick up truck. I wish I had the option to purchase one that got better mileage. However, that option is not available because Bush refused to continue the cafe standards and REQUIRE higher gas mileage. Now 5 1/2 years later he, under pressure, is looking at higher gas mileage for cars, SUV's and trucks. Why did he OPPOSE this very same suggestion 5 years ago?
on Apr 28, 2006
I reiterate What are YOU doing to conserve gas?
on Apr 28, 2006
I am driving less. Very few pleasure trips. The answer I want is better gas mileage or alternate fuel vehicles at a reasonable cost. Had Bush done in 2001 what he now talks about, the higher mileage cars would be on the road saving gas.

Now go talk to the libs and the green weenies that have BLOCKED the building of new refineries for the last "35" years!

And cars that get 45 miles to the gallon isn't an improvement?
on Apr 28, 2006
Most SUV's and other cars are NOT getting anything close to 45 MPG
