Congress is about to put the civilian contracting of support services in combat zones under scrutiny. This is something that should have been done several years ago but it is a politically charged issue. There has been some proof that civilian contractors have over charged the Federal Government for the services they performed. We also know many of the contracts were awarded without competition. When the GOP controlled Congress they did not want to shed light on this issue for fear it ...

In 2002 Bush and Cheney were telling the American People and Congress that we had to remove Saddam from power because to fail to act would risk “Mushroom clouds over American Cities”. Make no mistake about it, it was the belief that Saddam might use nuclear weapons against the U.S. that was feared most and was the issue that convinced Congress to give President Bush the authority to invade Iraq. At the same time Bush and Cheney were pushing the nuclear threat issue from Saddam, the...

Yesterday Bush went into the lions den and addressed the Democratic Issues Conference in Williamsburg, VA. One of the subjects Bush discussed was his suggestion to deal with the 47 Million of Americans that have No health insurance. He admitted that many thought his tax deduction proposal was, as he put it, “a lousy idea”. Why is the Bush plan a “lousy idea”? Because by the president’s own estimate his plan would help 3 million people obtain health insurance. I am sure his supporter...

This long awaited report from the 16 U.S. Intelligence agencies says we are not winning; the violence will most likely get worse and when we leave the fighting could increase more. In a nut shell, this war and the flawed Foreign Policy of George W. Bush did exactly what Gen Powell warned about—“Break it and it is yours”. This report underscores several important issues: This conflict is a multidimensional Civil War - Sunni against Shi, and Sunni/Shi against U.S. In addition, yeste...

The three largest integrated U.S. oil companies posted their 2006 Profits. These are the companies that Bush and the GOP gave $12 Billion of your money for more tax brakes. This is what they reported as their 2006 net earnings: Exxon Mobile $39.5 Billion - up $3.4 Billion over 2005 Chevron $17.1 Billion – up $3.0 Billion over 2005 Conoco Phillips $15.5 Billion – up $2.0 Billion over 2005 These increases are outlandish and mean that every American paid too much...

The U.S. Dept. of Commerce shows the inconsistency of the Bush claim that the economy is good. This study documents that low and middle income families are spending all their after tax income. Even though wages have increased, the resources that are available to pay their monthly bills dropped after inflation and taxes. The Dept of Commerce reported that the nation’s personal savings rate was the worst since the great depression. In 2006, the overall savings rate was a negative 1%. Tha...

This group (Blackwater USA) is again in the news and has come to the attention of Congressman Murtha. The CEO of this corporation is a conservative with very close ties to GWB. American Taxpayers have been heavily funding the private military force and the cost per person is about two times what the average military member costs the taxpayer. They have received large contracts and have been very active in Iraq. Why would our government fund a private military force that does not fall u...

The testimony in the Libby Trial is producing a picture of a White House that will go to extreme measures to try and stop or spin information that did not support the Bush claim that we were in danger from Saddam. The claim that Saddam tried to purchase uranium in Africa was questioned by the intelligence community. At the same time this issue was being questioned by VP Cheney. The testimony shows that Cheney did not specifically ask that Ambassador Wilson be sent to investigate the...

The Bush administration is planning on spending $170 Billion on the war in Iraq and now wants another $10 Billion for the war in Afghanistan. Neither of these amounts are included in the current year budget. Where does Bush plan to get this additional $180 Billion from? It is time to force Bush to pay for the cost of the wars. No more borrowing. Force him to get Congress to either cut spending by that $180 Billion or increases taxes to pay the bill!

Bush helped form the new government in Lebanon as one of his new democracies that was to help stabilize the Moslem World. That new government was weak from the outset and Hezbollah was able to operate in the Sothern section of the country. That militant group is the avowed enemy of both Israel and the United States. When the two Israeli soldiers were captured by Hezbollah, Israel invaded Lebanon and destroyed much of southern Lebanon. In addition to the destruction of the buildings a...

His state of the Union speech was very well written and Bush delivered it well. It was received in what appeared to be a subdued way. In fact the biggest response was to his comments about the first female Speaker of the House. Mr. Bush highlighted many very important issues. Some of them he has acknowledged before like a need to solve the financial problems of Social Security and Medicare, energy independence, balance the budget, secure our border, improve public education and healthcar...

The Army Corps of Engineers is very concerned about the integrity of the Wolf Creek Dam. If this dam were to fail, an area where 1.4 million people live could be flooded. Areas in Kentucky and Tennessee including Nashville are in danger. Here is yet another example where we have failed to deal with the aging infrastructure in our country. We can send Billions to Iraq to rebuild their infrastructure while we ignore what needs to be done in this country. Last week Bush visited the Gu...

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke is again warning of the danger posed by the looming retirement of 78 million Baby Boomers. However Chairman Bernanke fails to focus on the real problem which is the increased National Debt which has been caused by the fiscal policy of George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. President Bush inherited a balanced annual budget and his policy of CHARGE and SPEND will add $4 Trillion Dollars to the National Debt in his eight years in office. At an interest rate of 5% on t...

The faculty and Alumni at SMU are circulating a petition to oppose the placement of the Presidential Library of George W. Bush at their school. President Bush commented yesterday that those who are objecting to his library at SMU do not understand that a library is a place of learning and a good thing. What George W. Bush does not understand is that SMU is a private school affiliated with the Methodist Church and their objection is not to a library but to his library because they bel...
